Massimo is a self-taught drummer and keyboardist who plays and performs in various styles and genres across the musical spectrum, favoring high-energy instrumental jazz fusion.
Born and raised in Rome, Italy, he began playing at the age of twelve, and has performed with many groups, including “I Percussionisti di Roma”, a percussion ensemble. He has also taken part in several European jazz festivals throughout his career.
Since emigrating to the USA in 1986, Massimo has been playing live and recording with numerous bands. After teaching privately for several years, he has now focused his energy and time on composing, arranging, recording, and producing.
Describing his music and drumming style as “…an attempt to bring the listener’s awareness to a higher level…", he believes that his music is intended to fill those many musical voids that exist around us. He draws his inspiration mainly from surrealism, along with a basic, but critical ingredient: improvisation.
Massimo cites the Brecker Brothers, Dennis Chambers, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Vinnie Colaiuta, Chick Corea, Larry Coryell, Salvador Dali, George Duke, M.C. Escher, Frank Frazetta, Steve Gadd, Jan Hammer, Herbie Hancock, Allan Holdsworth, Gary Husband, Keith Jarrett, Chaka Khan, Mahavishnu Orchestra, John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorius, Return To Forever, Buddy Rich, Steps Ahead, Gino Vannelli, Narada Michael Walden, Weather Report, Lenny White, and Patrick Woodroffe as his primary artistic influences.
