New projects information

July 04, 2007

I am pleased to announce that I have just sold my 1000th solo CD in just under a year's time.

Given that I am composing, performing, and producing eclectic music that purposely counters mainstream trends; that I do not tour, gig locally, or have a presence on websites like MySpace & YouTube; that the releases have yet to receive any commercial radio airplay, reviews in widely-circulated magazines, or distribution through major outlets; and that my advertising and marketing budgets were meager, even by indie music standards, I am elated to have achieved this milestone.

Three years ago today, I began production on my current releases, so it is fitting that once again on Independence Day, I have decided to embark on three new instrumental world fusion projects.

Judging by the skeletal ideas I have accumulated so far, the contents should be in the same vein as my two primary releases - Orbis Terrarum & Sphere Of Influence - with an overall reduction in the usage of acoustic piano, classical guitar, ethnic flutes, and fretless bass; and the addition of ethnic instruments, rhythms, and influences that I enjoy listening to, but have yet to arrange or perform with. I also hope to add more guest musicians to make the compositions even more dynamic.

Each project is scheduled to contain 12-15 tracks, with 60-70 minutes of running time, and will take a slightly different path than the others:

  • Xenosonic Journeys - One half of the album will feature dual bass arrangements (fretted & fretless, DI & effected, plucked & slapped, etc.) with the other half venturing into more modern styles/genres that I am not completely fluent in, like: electronica, chill, ambient, techno, etc., while once again incorporating ethnic sonorities from throughout the globe.

  • The Passage Of Time - Each composition in this project will feature at least a section in odd time signatures (or odd meters), with the titles inspired from quotes, proverbs, lyrics, etc. about the subject of "time". There will be more Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern primary influences on this album that the other two.

  • Global Resonance - One half of the contents will feature duets with bass guitar (or maybe piano) and various ethnic instruments, while the second half will encompass laid-back, stripped-down arrangements. There will be less ethnic percussion and more Asian/Oriental primary influences on this album that the others.

Finally, my sincere thanks to everybody who purchased a compact disc (or a download) within the last year, especially to those of you who took time from your schedules to e-mail me your words of encouragement and support. I truly appreciate it, and hope that you enjoy the music for years to come!

    Gino

    Addendum (September 01, 2007)

I am happy to report that after six long years, Dave, Joe, and I have finally found the time to begin rehearsing & writing new material for an eventual third Electrum release. Unlike my solo projects, no title, arrangement ideas, or stylistic boundaries have been set at this early stage. Please visit our band's official website for news updates.
